Works as designed! August 9, 2009 Thomas Holland 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This worked great on our 700 mile trip this summer. I am impressed with the quality build of the rack. We have a 2004 Ford Expedition and didn't have any problems. Two adult and two childrens bike fit on there good. With all that weight, it was pretty heavy to push back into the upright position, so take that into consideration if you are a light weight. I do suggest doing a trial run/fit before a trip which i did and it saved us about 30-45 minutes the morning of the trip. I even took pictures of the bike placement so that i could recreate the bike positions (i know, i'm kinda weird). If you don't want your bike to rub on one another use buffers (old innertube cut up) to place between where the bike touch. You may also need bungy cords or rope to keep everything tight so everthing is not swinging and to keep the wheels from spinning. FWIW, most of what i'm suggesting applies to most bike racks.
Element 4 Bike Hitch Rack May 18, 2009 R. Sopko (Pitt,Pa) Softride 26045 Access Element Bike Rack for 1.25" Receiver I loaded it with 2 adult and 2 kids bikes on a Honda Van and it worked great, although we did install a ratchet strap from the hitch safty chain holes around the top of the bikes and back to the hitch to take out some bounce on bad roads. We also put a limiter between the parall bars so it stops just far enough in order to open the hatch, with the bike weight about 130# the least acess movement the easyer it is to use.
Love it November 19, 2009 Donna (Chicago, IL) I did some researching before my purchase. Was a little leary of an on-line purchase with out seeing it. Have used it, and have even gotten comments from friends who have similar racks and they like mine better.
Very Sturdy March 1, 2010 Christy L. Roberts (Pensacola) Great Item. We were easily able to fit 4 bikes (2 adult, 2 kids'). We needed the crossbar adapter for the kids' bikes. Very sturdy item. The bikes didn't sway or rattle due to the securing straps. The ability of the rack to tilt sets this bike rack apart!
Exactly what I wanted in a bike rack August 31, 2010 M. V. Damiano My father-in-law asked my to go in on the purchase of a bike rack. I ended up offering to buy it and keep it so he could user it for a trip. We researched many brands and looked at all the features on each brand while keeping an eye on the final price.
I have a Yukon with a hatch the opens vertically, so the extend with bikes loaded feature was essential. The flip up/down rack when bikes unloaded was needed to close the garage door without removing the hitch. We bought 4 anti sway attachments and a locking bolt. The added price did not put the total price over other systems. The reviews I read on this manufacturer and model were all good. I have not had an issues. My father-in-law took his trip with 3 bikes. The rubber flex strap took some damage, but I think it was more user error than poor quality. He must have over stretched the strap. One hole has a rip in it and the other holes have distorted openings. Otherwise it worked great on his cross country trip. I was not there to load the bikes, but I was there to unload them. He used extra bungy cords beyond what was needed, but the bikes weren't really loaded right in the first place. Make sure the person using it has an idea of how to use the anti sway bar to lock the bike down. You don't need bungy cords through the tires to stop them from spinning either. It's ok that they spin while you drive.
